Todos Santos as a day trip from Los Cabos
Todos Santos lies on the Pacific coast north of Cabo San Lucas, on the road to La Paz. It is a small town with a mission history and surf beaches nearby. For most visitors staying in San José del Cabo or on the Tourist Corridor, it is a full day out: a drive across the cape, a few hours in town and the drive back.
A Todos Santos day trip works two ways. You can join a guided tour that picks you up at your hotel, or you can rent a car and drive yourself. The guided tours on this page leave from the Los Cabos area and take around six hours in total, with transport included.

Our picks: Todos Santos

Which Todos Santos tour fits you
Two kinds of guided Todos Santos tours run from the Los Cabos area. Both include return transport, so you do not need a car.
| Tour type | Length | Included | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Culture tour of the town | About 6 hours | Transport, guided tour, bottled water; lunch only if you choose that option | Travelers who want time in the streets and at the mission |
| Town tour with ranch stop | About 6 hours | Return transport, bilingual guide, Mexican buffet lunch, fruit waters and beer, tequila tasting | Travelers who want a full day with lunch and drinks sorted |
The ranch tour has camels in its name, but a camel ride is not part of what is included. If riding is what you want, look at the ATV and camel tours in the desert closer to Cabo San Lucas instead. For most visitors who mainly want to see the town, the culture tour is the simpler choice; pick the lunch option if you do not want to look for a place to eat yourself.
Both tours collect guests from hotels in the Los Cabos area. Confirm the exact pickup point and time when you book.
Getting to Todos Santos from San José and the Corridor
From Cabo San Lucas the drive takes about an hour on Highway 19 along the Pacific side. Todos Santos is 75 km north of Cabo San Lucas and 81 km from La Paz. If you start in San José del Cabo or at a Corridor hotel, the journey time differs, so ask for your pickup time and plan an early start.
Driving yourself gives you more freedom to add a beach stop on the way back. A guided tour saves you the navigation and the parking, and the guide explains the town as you walk. Our airport and car rental guide covers renting a car at SJD.
If you are based in Cabo San Lucas itself, the sister guide has a page on Todos Santos from Cabo San Lucas.

What to see in Todos Santos
Most day visitors spend their time in the historic center and then head to the coast.
The mission and its history
Todos Santos began as a mission outpost in 1723 and became a mission in its own right in 1733 under Segismundo Taraval. It was later also called Nuestra Señora del Pilar. The church you see today is not an unchanged building from 1723.
The old town on foot
The historic center is small enough to walk. A guided tour is a good way to get the story of the mission and the town in a few hours.
Pueblo Mágico status
Mexico's tourism ministry added Todos Santos to its Pueblos Mágicos list in 2006.
Todos Santos beaches: Cerritos and La Pastora
Two beach names come up again and again. Cerritos is about 10 minutes from town and is known as a surf area. La Pastora is another surf spot along the same coast. Do not plan them as calm swimming bays.
Surf beaches are not automatically good for swimming. Conditions change with the swell and the season, and flags and closures apply here as they do around Los Cabos. Check the flag on the day before you go in, and read our Los Cabos beaches guide for how the flag system works.
Sea turtle nesting on the coast
Sea turtles nest on beaches in the Los Cabos area. The local rules are simple: keep your distance, do not touch the turtles, use no flash and do not drive ATVs through nesting areas. If you see a marked nest or a hatchling on the sand, leave it alone and move on.

Tips for your Todos Santos trip
- Start early: ask for the pickup time from your hotel, since an early start leaves more time in town.
- Lunch: check whether your tour includes lunch. On the culture tour it depends on the option you book.
- Beach plans: bring swimwear only as an option. Swimming depends on the surf and the flag on the day.
- Combine it: Todos Santos fits well with a beach day or a day trip to La Paz on another day.
